Purkeys released a new product, the multimeter training unit, to help fleets train technicians on a heavy-duty vehicle’s electrical system. The MTU allows technicians to hone their skills with a multimeter in a controlled environment before practicing on a vehicle.

Purkeys Sales and Service Engineer Larry Rambeaux demonstrates how the state of charge feature works on the MTU This feature allows technicians to understand the relationship between voltage and state of charge and how they differ in AGM and flooded cell batteries.

Understanding the relationship between state of charge and voltage is important. Most electronic testers require the batteries to be at a certain state of charge in order to properly perform the test. When technicians know how to use a multimeter and what the different readings mean they can see which batteries need to be charged before testing.
